| Who me? |
 I worked an overtime assignment today that targeted aggressive drivers. After writing 15 tickets for tailgating, I learned an interesting fact. It appears that everyone in my town loves to tailgate but none of them actually think that they tailgate.
I swear I had the same conversation at least 10 times.

| Nobody's punching bag |
A few years ago my partner and I were on foot patrol around the bar district of my city. We got waved over by a doorman who was in an argument with an obviously intoxicated guy.
It turned out that the drunk was being refused entry and was unhappy about it. I tried to explain to him that the bar could refuse service to anyone and there were plenty of other bars nearby that he could go to. Of course he wouldn't hear of it and just kept yelling that he knew his rights. I inevitably got tired of arguing and told him he was under arrest for being drunk in public.

| CopCAST Episode 91 - Cruzin' Cooler |
The entire CopCAST crew is back at the microphones for this week's show - and a great show it is.
Sometimes you just have to wonder about people. For instance, how could one driver accumulate 1.9 million dollars in fines. Idaho just says "no" to campus cops. It is really "Sucksville" when a cops starts a fire - even for love. Remember, it is not the fall that will get you - it is the sudden stop. Dallas Police Department releases shooting video. Is there really a blue wall of silence? Great database - not so great results. Really, the guy was driving a cooler. This week we have the weird, the strange and the bazaar - and that is just Mack's vacation pictures.

| Poor judgement |
One thing I've learned as a cop is that poor impulse control will land you in jail. While on patrol I made many arrests for things that were completely avoidable. You're mad at a doorman because he won't let you in? Instead of punching him, try going to a different club. There is a purse sitting in the top basket of that shopping cart? I know it's a tempting item but just keep walking. You don't have money for that video game? Go save up a little bit of cash and come back later.
I bring this up because I was recently reminded of a totally avoidable arrest that I made back when I was on patrol. To this day I still don't understand what the suspect was thinking.

| CopCAST Episode 90 - Texting Is Dumb |
The Mackster is still across the pond and we are hoping that the London Bridge is not falling down. Morgan got stuck in California but he fought his way back to do the show.
This week we have a student who thought it would be a good joke to steal dead animals from the vet and stash them in the lockers at the local high school. The cops did not agree. A bad search gives an Alaska man the opportunity to commit suicide in the back seat of a patrol car. Several charges have been dropped against a Seattle cop stemming from an August shooting at Sturgis. To the dude with the picnic - is she really worth all that trouble? A study shows that a motorist who is texting is significantly more impaired than a motorist at the legal limit for alcohol. The windy city cops are expressing their displeasure with management via reduced productivity. A gorilla robs a Dunkin Donuts store - or something like that. One subject serves as the intermediate weapons training dummy for the local police. Ah Morgan . . . what state did those last two incidents occur? What a week!

| 20 items or less, reserved seats and other house rules |
One of the perks of police work is that there's usually a lot of overtime available. Many businesses and event promoters like to hire police officers for extra security. This is good for many reasons. A uniformed police officer's great for stopping problems before they begin. For example, if you have a theater that has a lot of rowdy teens causing problems, simply hiring a cop to walk around will calm things down dramatically. If there's a serious problem, you have a cop available immediately instead of having to wait for a response to a 911 call.
If an employer hires police with the intent of having them keep the peace and deter crime, everyone's usually happy with the deal (except troublemakers). Problems arise when employers don't understand the limitations of the police. When a cop tells someone to do something, that carries great weight with people. It's assumed that if a police officer gives someone an order, that order has the force of law behind it. For that reason, my department has a clear policy that officers working an overtime assignment can not enforce house rules.

| CopCAST Episode 89 - Mission Failed |
Mack's vacation habits are quickly becoming the stuff of legends and he continues to build on his reputation by taking off to Europe this week. We feel duty bound to say, "Look out London, you are his first stop." So Rich and Morgan have to keep the home fires going this week sans the Mackster.
A dad is charged with assault for hitting is daughters naked boyfriend with a pipe after finding him in her bedroom in the wee hours of the morning. What's up with that? You may be funny but don't quit you day job, chief. The Virginia Supreme Court says sending 10 million spam e-mails per day is a protected right. It must have been the full moon that caused that guy to think it was a good idea to rob the same bank twice. It is never a good idea to invite a real cop when you are playing cop. By the way, that camera looking thing on the wall, it is a camera. It is nice to know that even a secret agent can have a bad day. These are just a few of the stories we discuss plus we have some great listener feedback and a bunch useless banter.

| CopCAST Episode 88 - Bald Is Beautiful |
This week the entire crew was back at their home bases but Mack quickly departed for another weekend on the boat.
As usual, we discuss the unusual like the cross-dressing purse snatcher who lost his boob. We also have another fleeing emu but this one did not end happily. Deputy black bear kept us on the zoological theme. Canadians suspect that bullets kill but so does being thrown from a car on the highway - the investigation continues. On a somber note, we remember the seventh anniversary of the 911 attack. We also talk about a high tech solution to a low tech problem. Some banks learn that social engineering is an effective way to lift their data and equipment.

| Can't you take a hint? |
I can't get over how some people just refuse to stop slinging dope. It is very common to arrest a person for dealing, have them get out on bond, and then arrest them for dealing again while they are waiting on their court date for the first charge.
It boggles my mind that someone would have waiting on a trial for dealing drugs and continue to do it. I've been given the excuse multiple times that they are trying to raise money for their legal fees. That kinda makes sense but I don't buy it. Public defenders are available and I just can't get behind selling crack to pay for a lawyer to get you off for selling crack the first time.
